Clasby Takes Full Speed Workout, Might Yet Play Brown on Saturday

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The varsity football team went through a usual Thursday no-contact drill yesterday afternoon, with the emphasis on pass defense

Coach Lloyd Jordan indicated that his big problem Saturday is to stop pass receiver and seatback Zipper Thompson; Jordan called him "a great back," in a class with Bob Mercier of Columbia, Homer Smith of Princeton, and Lou Turner of Dartmouth.

Captain Dick Clasby ran full speed for the first time in two weeks yesterday while alternating with Carroll Lowenstein. Jordan is still not certain about the tall-back's status for the Brown game. Clasby did work parttime in Wednesday's morning workout, which was his first appearance in pads.

Also working with the first eleven were wingback Bob Cowlies and center Alan Culbert. Cowlies Dexter Lewis, or Frank White will start at the position Saturday.

Culbert, an 188-pound sophomore, replaced regular Jeft Coolidge, who is now off crutches but not ready. Speaking about Culbert and another sophomere center, Jan Meyor, Jordan stated. "Neither boy known whether he is going to start, so they'll both get a good night's sleep."

In regard to his wingback situation, the Crimson coach indicated that Cowles is still not in top form after missing two weeks with a shoulder injury. "His legs are not in running condition yet. If he had been working all along," Jordan went on, "he could have gone all the way on that play in the Princeton game."
