Yale Crew Date Set; 150-lb. Limit Changed

For the first time, the varsity and lightweight crews will race Yale's crews on a Saturday this year. It was also announced last night that the lightweight crew weight limit was changed.

Hoyt C. Pease, regatta chairman, announced that the Yale races have been rescheduled this year for Saturday, June 19, upstream on the Thames River at New London, Conn. In the past the races were always held on a Friday afternoon.

The 150-pound crew is now a 155-pound crew as the result of a recent ruling made by the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. The group passed a rule raising the top weight limit of the lightweight crews to 160 pounds.

Varsity coach Harvey Love and lightweight coach Lee Rouner commented that the change won't make much difference. They said one reason for the change was to make the sport more popular at more colleges.
