Dance Committee Hopes to Elect 'Cliffe Queen on Football Weekend

Another Miss Radcliffe?

Any unmarried woman connected with the University community will be eligible to compete for a football weekend "queen" title, if current plans of the Inter-House Dance Committee materialize.

Acting on a proposal made by Stephen L. Singer '57, the Committee is planning a beauty contest, tentatively scheduled for either the Brown or the Yale game weekend.

A petition was submitted ten days ago by the Committee to the Radcliffe Board of Deans asking that they withdraw their refusal to permit Annex freshman from competing in beauty competitions. Earlier this fall the Administration issued a statement forbidding freshmen to enter the CRIMSON'S traditional "Miss Radcliffe Contest."

If the Annex Administration gives its consent, the new contest will be open to all Radcliffe undergraduates and graduate students, women in any of the University graduate schools and women employed by the University.

Emphasis in the proposed competition, Singer said, will be focused on the contest itself, rather than on the winner. She will have the option, but not the obligation, of doing modeling work for stores in the Square, Singer stressed.

The prospective beauty queen or an admirer may submit her application blank with a photograph attached, according to present plans for the project. However, no woman may be entered in the contest without her consent.
