Professor Condemns Towing Away Cars

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A Divinity School professor yesterday attacked as "an outrageous violation of the rights of citizens of a democracy" the towing away of his car while he was at church in Boston Sunday.

In a letter to the Boston Globe, Paul H. Lehman, Parkman Professor of Theology, said that when he returned to his parking space after church, he discovered that the street was being cleared for the Veterans' Day parade, and that he would have to pay a seven dollar towing charge. Lehman asserted that there were no signs or other indications of the special regulations.

Lehman said he thought that "proper consideration" should have been taken for those attending church, since the parade was not to be held until the afternoon. He said that the practice, "if allowed to continue, could only further the dismal reputation of Boston as one of the most demoralized cities in the country."

Lehman said last night that he had also written to the Traffic Commission.
