HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
In your reporting of my first of my first lecture in the Lowell Institute series...it was...stated that the psychiatrist had the duty of communicating his findings to the faculty. This, statement is very misleading and harmful as it stands. What was stated in the lecture was that the psychiatrist must keep all information given him by the student completely confidential but that he has the duty of informing the faculty and the students about any general conditions that are operating in such a way as to precipitate illness among students. Dana L. Farnsworth, M.D., Director of University Health service.
Ed. Note: Yesterday's article stated: "The psychiatrist will have a twofold task in colleges, according to Farnsworth. Primarily he should act as a physician that a student can consult for mental troubles, but also has the duty to communicate his findings to the faculty."
