Varsity Golfers Go for 11th Win Against Strong Yale Squad Here

The varsity golf team will be trying for its 11th win against two losses today, as it meets a strong Yale team on its home course in Brookline. While the homecourse factor will be of some advantage to the Crimson, the Yale team is expected to provide stiff opposition.

Since the Brookline links are long and well-trapped, both long hitting and accuracy are imperative. The course is difficult and challenging, and par scores are not easy to come by.

Varsity captain Frank Dodge will face Bulldog leader John Souseman in the number one contest. Souseman defeated Dodge last year, 4 and 3, and the Crimson captain will be out for revenge today. The second varsity man, sophomore Fisk Warren, will have the unenviable task of facing Yale's Ted Weiss, a finalist in last spring's Eastern Intercollegiate Tournament.

Dick Reilly, Bob Grundeman, Jim Noble, Al Lipsky, and Dave Bernstein will complete the varsity's lineup.

Both Dodge and Warren have compiled impressive records so far this season. Dodge has dropped only one match while winning 11, and Warren has an equally brilliant 10-2 slate. Reilly, the third man, has taken seven of his ten matches, and the team as a whole has a record of 10-2 for the season, with a 1-1 mark in Ivy League play.

Friday the Crimson will travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers in a dual meet. While at Princeton, the golfers will compete in the three-day Eastern Intercollegiates on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Dodge said yesterday that the varsity's Intercollegiate chances "look much better than they have for a long time." Although the Crimson has finished near the bottom of the 16-team field for several years, Dodge predicted that "with a break" the team could make the top five this time.
