HYRC Members Call For General Meeting To Discuss Delegation

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Members of the Harvard Young Republican Club, dissatisfied with the omission of Howard J. Phillips '62 from the club's delegation to a state Republican organization, have circulated a petition calling for a general membership meeting to reconsider the selection of the club's representatives.

Douglas C. Salmond '62, second vicepresident of the HYRC and a spokesman for the group circulating the petition, claimed that a majority of the members of the club had already signed.

Phillips is presently a candidate for the office of Chairman of the state group, the Massachusetts Council of Young Republican Clubs, in opposition to Hugh W. Barber, Jr. '62, past president of the HYRC, who is included in the delegation approved by the executive committee.

Selected by Law School

The Law School Republican organization has already selected Phillips as a delegate, but he indicated last night that, even if the meeting was never called, the petition would probably be a factor in the state election.

Tom A. Alberg '62, president of the HYRC, denied any objection to the meeting, which he indicated would be called as soon as the petition was received. Phillips said it had been filed with the secretary, Richard A. Derham '62.
