As co-author of the recently completed play A Ton of Bricks, William J. J. Gordon, lecturer in Engineering, combines his knowledge of the physical sciences with his skills as a playwright. The play satirizes research in the physical sciences, according to Gordon, and has been scheduled for a "try-out" at the Bucks County Playhouse June 25.
Gordon, who was assisted in writing the play by novelist Max Wilk, described A Ton of Bricks as a "criticism of 99.9 per cent of the research we do in this country, which is mediocre." The comedy assumes that "competence is a means of hiding mediocrity" and preaches the "necessity of risking the big mistake."
Gordon is the author of Synectics and has had his fiction published in the New Yorker and the Atlantic Monthly.
