Spikers Meet Dartmouth; Indians Missing 2 Stars

Having survived last week's struggle with Army, the Crimson track team now faces three weeks of boredom until they meet with the Heptagonals on May 11. The fact that Dartmouth is visiting Cambridge for a meet today at 2 p.m. will not appreciably lessen the boredom.

Although Dartmouth was able to score as many as 40 points against the Crimson indoors, they will be missing two of their stars this afternoon and the results should be disastrous.

Sprinter Gerry Ashworth, who beat Crimson ace Aggrey Awori twice during the winter, is in Brazil for the Pan-American Games. Middle-distance man Tom Holzel was involved in an automobile accident last week and apparently will be unable to run.

Little Indian Competition

It takes considerable searching, then, to unearth the faintest promise of competition for today's meet. Indian distance star Pete Wells will offer some interest; he should press Harvard's big three of Ed Meehan, captain Ed Hamlin, and Bill Crain in the mile. Hamlin, after suffering minor injuries for several weeks, hopes to return to the form he displayed during cross-country season.

Other than in the distance races, Dartmouth will offer little or no competition. Crimson coach Bill McCurdy will probably try to enter as many reserves as possible, but he faces such a pleasantly small number of injuries that this may not be possible. At the moment, only sophomore Peter Lamp, University record holder in the javelin, will be missing; Lamp has sustained a slight back injury and is not ready for full competition.

One interesting note will be Awori's first attempt at the 440 yard hurdles, which have been added to collegiate competition just this year. The longer hurdle race is one of the most gruelling in track, and Awori may not yet be in sufficient shape to turn in a top time.
