Robert B. Brigham Hospital, an 84-bed Boston hospital primarily for rheumatic diseases, will become a major teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School.
The new link will come as a result of the appointment of Dr. K. Frank Austen, assistant professor of Medicine at the Medical School, as Physician-in-Chief of the Robert B. Brigham Hospital.
The hospital is one of six in Boston which will eventually be consolidated into a medical center to be associated with the Medical School.
Dr. Austen will direct the establishment of a major division of immunology for the Medical School at Robert B. Brigham.
When the appointment becomes effective July 1, Dr. Austen will also become associate professor of Medicine at the Medical School.
