J.V. Gridders Swamp Curry 35-8 As Smith and Halas Spark Attack

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Quarterback Dave Smith directed an explosive offense and the defense was once again devastating as Harvard's undefeated J.V. football team coasted to a 35-8 decision over Curry College at Milton Saturday.

Smith threw three touchdown passes early in the game, and the Crimson were on top 35-0 by halftime. Ed Lukawski tallied on a freak play, and quarterback Greg Kundrat concluded the scoring on a two-yard run. Eric Honick, who won the Princeton game with a field goal, kicked all five conversions successfully on Saturday.

Third Play

On the third play of the first quarter, Smith tossed a pass to halfback Pat Coleman who sped for a touchdown to complete a 39-yard play. Minutes later, Smith and end Kent Hales combined on a 27-yard touchdown pass after Chris Doyle had recovered a fumble by Curry's punter on the snap from center.

Hales also caught the next scoring pass from Smith, this one for five yards as Harvard went ahead 21-0. On the following kick-off, Curry's deep man allowed the ball to bounce into the end zone, and the alert Lukawski had little difficulty falling on it for another touchdown.

There were only five seconds left in the first half when Kundrat culminated a 25-yard drive with his short run. Harvard had completed its scoring, while hapless Curry had yet to make a first down.

Curry Scores

Curry finally got on the scoreboard as Frank Tomasino tallied on a three-yard pass. Fred Martucci's interception halted another Curry drive.

The defense has now allowed only 30 points and has shut out two opponents, obviously deserving much credit for the Crimson's 6-0 record. The J.V.'s remain one of Harvard's four undefeated teams.
