Punching

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

If you are a sophomore, and an envelope with an animal engraved on the back slips under your door during one night early in October, and you like brandy, cigars, and touch football, start looking for your striped tie. The envelope is an invitation to a club "punching" function, and it means that you are one of the approximately 200 members of your class being considered by a club. If you are a regular guy, you will be wined and dined by a variety of clubs for about two months, at which point you can join one, provided you don't make an ass out of yourself.

During punching, you will hear clubs called "final" clubs. They are called that because there used to be "waiting" clubs. If you don't understand the difference, it doesn't matter because there aren't any waiting clubs any more. There is the Pi Eta, however. The Pi has a lot of jocks, spaghetti dinners, and all the beer you can drink, which makes it a better deal for your money than any of the "final" clubs.
