Leigh Hoadley, professor of Zoology emeritus and former master of Leverett House, died Friday at the age of 80.
Hoadley joined the Harvard Faculty in 1927 and was named professor of Zoology in 1930. He served as Leverett House master from 1941 until 1957.
Before retiring in 1962, he had also served as associate dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, a trustee of Radcliffe College and chairman of the Zoology Department.
Ralph H. Wetmore, professor of Biology emeritus, said yesterday that Hoadley's mastership may have "cut in to his scientific work in terms of fulfilling his potential."
"But he loved his mastership, so who can blame him," Wetmore said, adding that Hoadley had nevertheless turned out some brilliant, internationally-known, Ph.Ds.
