To the Editors of The Crimson:

Your article on the review section for Social Sciences 15b managed to avoid the issues involved in the matter. The agitated reaction to the statement issued by Professor Maher before his Soc Sci 15b class can be attributed to the erroneous and misleading nature of his announcement. Professor Maher's statement was interpreted by myself and other Soc Sci 15b students whom I have talked with as indicating that the Psych and Soc Rel department, as part of its curriculum and using its faculty in their professional roles, was offering a special review section excluding non-"minority" students. However, this was most definitely not the case.

The section was sponsored and organized by Afro, as a Harvard-Radcliffe organization, which may offer any service to its members which it desires. These services include inviting teaching fellows, on a purely voluntary and off-time basis, to attend review sessions. Furthermore, as a Harvard-Radcliffe organization, Afro has the right to exclude any non-members from its group functions if it so desires. Kevin Grumbach '78
