Harvard Heavies, Lights Destroy Foes

The Harvard lights bounced back from their freak loss at Navy last week with an easy seven-second victory over Princeton and Yale on the Charles yesterday to win the Goldthwatte Cup.

The Crimson moved out at the start and slowly increased its lead throughout the contest to win by what looked from the finish line like a one and one-half length margin of victory.

"Everybody thought the boat went really well." Mike Loucks said afterwards. "The boat felt much better than it had in the last two weeks. We had a good second thousand meters."

Best Race

"We were a little surprised that Princeton and Yale stayed so close." Loucks said, "but they later told us that they had rowed their best race of the season."

In other races, the Harvard freshmen triumphed over their Eli and Tiger counterparts, although Princeton did come on in the last part of that race to push the Crimson Yardlings. Harvard goes into next week's Sprints undefeated.

The junior varsity was impressive in its victory, winning by open water.

The third varsity boats also triumphed over their Yale opponents.
