Baltimore pitching ace Jim Palmer was in mid-season form for yesterday's baseball opener against the Red Sox. The Oriole righthander stifled the defending American League champs on six hits to rack up a 1-0 victory.

Palmer pitched eight innings of shutout ball and Dyar Miller finished up in the ninth, while Boston starter and lower Ferguson Jenkins was touched for the only run of the game in the fourth when Baltimore's Lee May cruised home from first base on a Fred Lynn throwing error.
