Racqueteers Set for Weekend Matches

Men Face Tigers Saturday

The Harvard women's squash team exhibited one quality above all others this season: guts. Their toughest test, however, will come this weekend when they play seven matches over three days at the Howe cup competition in New Haven, Conn.

The Howe Cup is split into A and B divisions. The results in the A division are the major criteria for determining the national champion, and the undefeated racquetwomen must capture the Cup if they hope to take the collegiate title. Junior Becky Tung, recently recovered from a knee injury, will play in the top slot. Freshman Cynthia Stanton, playing manager Nell Foreman, undefeated Courtney Stimpson and captain Jenny Stone round out Harvard's quintet of A players.

Wendy Sonnabend, Eleanor Cunningham and Stephanie Baum will attempt to defend the B title which Harvard took home last year.

The A squad's stiffest competition in the preliminary round should come from Williams, which conquered the women racketeers twice last year--once in the Howe Cup. The Crimson dumped Williams 5-2 earlier this season, but the revenge won't be complete without a victory Saturday.

Princeton has won the Cup six out of its seven years, and is predictably favored again this weekend.

"They're tough, but I think we can beat them, because they haven't played a single match yet this year," coach Paul Moses said yesterday.

"I guess they're so cocky they think they can just walk in and win the whole thing," he added.

Not so fast.
