Aquamen Outlast Yale

By Jim Silver

For once, a Harvard Yale water polo game had the intensity normally associated with the traditional rivalry.

Yale usually the doormat of New England polo put up a surprisingly tough fight last night at Blodgett Pool. The Elis succumbed to the more talented Crimson, 16 12 when their fourth quarter rally fell short

Spurred on by a tired up crowd of 60 tans, the hosts built up big leads in the first and third quarters only to see them whittled away by the Bulldogs in the second and fourth.

Appropriately the two senior aquamen playing their final contest in their Crimson Speedos provided the final margin of victory Co-Captain Rich Guerra and Rick Kirk each accounted for two goals and a steal

Hoo-Hah

With the victory Harvard ended its fourth season as a varsity squad, leaving the campaign with a 20.8 record a runner-up finish in the New England Championships and a fifth place mark at the Easterns.

THE NOTE BOOK: Co-Captain Dave Fast an advanced standing senior, has told Coach Steve Pike he'll return for a fourth season next year Fast finished off the season as the team's leading scorer and made second team All-East Sophomore Steve Heiszek sidelined throughout the season after knee surgery, finally saw playing time last night. Pike, usually apt to argue with referees, had only praise for last night's officiating Yale, which brought the bare minimum number of players, actually got half its scoring from a pair of late-season walkons...Back-up goalie Adam Button made a save for the Crimson in the final period.
