New Bookstore To Open in Old Pizza Locale

A used book store will open for business tomorrow in the former home of a popular pizzeria, within a block or two of established booksellers.

The new shop, "McIntyre and Moore," moved into the erstwhile quarters of Harvard Pizza earlier this month. The restaurant was forced out by management because of cockroach and mouse infestation and insurance company concerns over fire.

More than 150 firms applied for the store space on the corner of Plympton and Mt Auburn Sts., said landlord Genevieve McMillan.

McMillan added that the insurance and cockroach problems had subsided, but that exterminating the mice would take longer

Owners Michael W. McIntyre and Daniel R. Moore, who brought a stock of 6000 from their native Chicago, said that Cambridge is a very attractive market for the book trade.

Management at the store's two competitors. Panglass Bookshop and Starr Book Shop. yesterday welcomed their new rival. "We won't have the same books at the same time." explained Starr's owner, who refused to be identified.

"More people will come to Harvard Square to look for books," added Pangloss Manager David I Fertig. "The more bookstores the merrier."

Moore said, "I can imagine browsers through all three."

All three stores feature the same half-price markdown for most of their used stock McIntyre and Moore will be open seven days a week, while the others are closed Sunday.
