Twelve Juniors Make Phi Beta Kappa List

By Sophia A. Van wingerden

The Phi Beta Kappa announced Monday the election of the twelve junior women with the highest level of academic achievement.

The "Junior Twelve" are selected from an initial pool of 24 women chosen for their high grade-point averages. Final decisions are based on academic ranking and two letters of recommendation.

The twelve are Andrea M. Gauthier, Nikki A. Levin, Gail E. Nelson, Elizabeth Umlas, Takemi Ueno, Julia H. Flanders, Ingrid Boyum, Shari R. Finkelstein, Eugenia C. Katsigris, Hein Kim, Lisa Van Alstyne, and Elizabeth E. Shriberg, all of the class of 1987.

About 65 women in each class will be elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Besides the "junior 12," 24 seniors are chosen in December and about 30 more in late April.
