Is The Jinx Over?

The Beanpot Tournament

It's been a long seven years for Harvard Coach Bill Cleary (upper right) since his hockey team last earned its way into the finals of the Beanpot Tournament. But now the wait is over.

The Crimson edged Boston College, 5-4, Monday night in Boston Garden and will face Boston University in the championship game next Monday night.

The Eagles, down by three goals at the end of the second period, gave Harvard a scare in the final period, but--with the help of crease-sweeping defenseman Nick Carone (15, above)--freshman goaltender Chuckie Hughes (31) turned away 38 shots during the game to preserve the win.

B.C.'s Captain Tim Sweeney (11, right) tripped up Olympian Al Bourbeau (24), but Bourbeau and linemate C.J. Young (14, lower right) each scored second period goals to provide the margin of victory.

Although the Crimson will be favored when the Terriers and their fans (below) storm into Boston Garden next weekend, no one is taking that game for granted. After all, Harvard's Beanpot jinx is legendary. Cleary may have to wait even longer for his team to win the 'Pot.
