An Abuse of Process

TO THE EDITORS OF THE CRIMSON:

To the Editors:

I regret that the Society of Arab Students has decided to go public with its complaint (see "SAS Request Treated Unfairly" in the Letters to the Editors, February 9th) about the small grant it received from the Harvard Foundation this past fall.

It is simply unfair to the person accused to have the matter heard in this way as he has not had a chance to respond to the allegations. It is, in additon, not possible for privacy reasons for any College official to discuss publicly the affairs of any student. I am therefore unable to respond in full to their letter.

As for the delay in considering the complaint, it seemed inconsiderate to take up such an issue during Reading and Examination periods. The committee appointed--professor John Dowling, Professor Anne Harrington, and I--will seek to find a constructive resolution to the issues raised. Archie C. Epps III,   Dean of Students
