Car Crashes Outside Eliot House

By Courtney A. Coursey, CRIMSON STAFF WRITER

A dark green, late-model Toyota travelling on JFK Street towards Harvard Square jumped the curb, knocked over a fire hydrant, and came to rest against a tree adjacent to Eliot House at approximately 1 a.m. this morning.

The driver of the car sustained a few scratches on his face, but was not seriously injured.

"The only fatality was the fire hydrant," said Cambridge Police Department Patrol Officer Dennis M. O'Connor.

Two fire trucks were dispatched to the accident, according to Lt. Ed Morrissey of the Cambridge Fire Department.

One police car responded, O'Connor said.

The identity of the driver was unavailable at press time, but he was not presumed to be a Harvard College student. The cause of the accident is under investigation, O'Connor said.
