After battling through a tough tournament, the hope of the women's tennis team, freshman Nive Jerath fell just short in the 1999 Women's East Regional ITA Championships.
Jerath had advanced to the semifinals of the tournament, but William and Mary star Jessica Arthur proved too much for her winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
After splitting the first two sets, it looked like Arthur would cruise in the final set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Jerath managed to close the gap to 5-4 before bowing out.
The two finalists of the tournament qualify for the 2000 Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in February. Arthur was joined by Princeton's Kavitha Krishnamurthy in the finals.
Krishnamurthy advanced to the finals by beating the No. 1 seed, Martina Nedellova of VCA in straight sets.
She executed another sweep over Arthur, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action, William & Mary's top seeded duo of Carolijin Buis and Delphine Toch captured the doubles crown.
