Bok Center Should Collaborate With the UC

By Ryan A. Petersen

To the editors:

I’d like to offer some clarifying remarks concerning the op-ed I co-wrote “Better Teaching, an E-Mail Away” (Feb. 14). With faculty feedback, we’ve decided to always contact the course head concerning Teaching Fellows so as to strengthen that relationship and ensure a successful result.

In addition, I had previously understood the Derek Bok Center of Teaching’s help to be offered for our independently pursued project. It would be unfortunate for all of us, especially undergraduates, if any part of Harvard’s administration decreased the chance of success for this program. Though I hope that training can continue for the undergraduates, this program’s greatest strength is its basis on independent student initiative and our consultation with faculty and administration to ensure its effectiveness.
